Woodbine Growing Greener Project
The Woodbine Growing Greener Project construction began on August 3, 2006. The project involved the restoration of 2,400 feet of Muddy Creek below the Woodbine Bridge, (S.R. 425). The primary goals were to reduce the nonpoint source pollution (soil loss from bank erosion), improve aquatic habitat, and establish riparian buffers. Construction consisted of; the removal of a small mid-channel bar, reconstruction of a large point bar, installation of 5 Jhook rock vane structures and several bank structures constructed of logs. At least 900 foot of toe rock was placed
with extensive bank grading and an
established riparian buffer with
over 400 trees and shrubs. Aquatic
Resource Restoration Company did a
superb job of documenting the land
boundaries, redesigning and
constructing the project. A job well done
and it is absolutely awesome.
To complete the project, MCTU has
the opportunity to selectively place live stakes on this project site to enhance the riparian buffer, aquatic habitat and to help stabilize the banks. Look for winter workdays, around February and March, and volunteer for the live staking of willows and silky dogwoods. We would like to thank the landowners
for their patience with this project.
Stay tuned to this page for progress reports and pictures of this tremendous project. Or better yet, see it first hand by volunteering for the planting projects that will be coming in Spring 2007.
